Last Sunday, November 9th, the TTV Stiphout canteen wasn't all about table tennis, but rather a spirited atmosphere during the annual Keezen tournament. Ten couples took their seats at the tables, armed with cards, pawns, and a healthy dose of concentration—because anyone who thinks Keezen is a simple board game is mistaken!
For those unfamiliar with it: Keezen is a cross between "Ludo" and "pesten." Instead of dice, you use playing cards to advance your pawns. With clever card combinations, you can not only help yourself but also seriously hinder your opponents. The game revolves around tactics, teamwork, and… a little luck.
The organization was in excellent hands this year. Jo, our undisputed Keez expert, acted as judge and tournament director. He meticulously kept score and ensured everything ran according to the rules—although sometimes a little extra counting was necessary amidst all the laughter. Yolanda and Jo also provided a variety of delicious snacks, which were eagerly consumed between rounds. Behind the bar, Jean-Louis and Sandra, later replaced by Toine, kept the glasses full and the atmosphere high.
After an afternoon filled with exciting games, tactical moves, and lively commentary, it was time to take stock. The tension mounted when Jo announced the final standings: Carolien and René were crowned the proud winners of the tournament, followed by the strong duo of Renée and Frenklin, who claimed second place.
The prizes were awarded to loud applause, and there was a brief chat at the bar. All in all, it was a pleasant and successful Sunday afternoon—thanks to everyone who participated, helped, or simply came to watch. One thing is certain: by popular demand, we'll be back next year!
