On Saturday January 21st it was busy in Stiphouse. No less than 32 members participated in the
\nclub championships seniors. Among them also the club champion youth, Ryan Sanders and the
\nClub Champion Recreational, Lambert Cox. After all, the title of Overall was being contested
\nClub champion and then the winners of the other tournaments may also participate.<\/p>\n
It started with 8 four-way matches, where the rating determined the draw. After a few
\nsurprises in this first round the numbers 1 and 2 went through to the main tournament and the
\nnumbers 3 and 4 to the consolation tournament. In the first follow-up rounds four-way matches were played again
\nplayed. The winners of the four-way matches in the main round played for places 1 to 4,
\nthe numbers 2 played for places 5 to 8 etc.<\/p>\n
The women's title again went to Carolien, who thus defeated Yvette, winner of the 2022 edition,
\ndethroned.<\/p>\n
The 4 players who reached the semi-finals were Erwin, J\u00f6rgen, Peter and Tomislav. Erwin played
\nagainst Tomislav and J\u00f6rgen against Peter. This resulted in a final of Erwin against J\u00f6rgen. Erwin,
\nreigning club champion and J\u00f6rgen, multiple club champion. Both gentlemen made a beautiful
\nbattle of. In the fifth and deciding game it seemed to be J\u00f6rgen who came to 9-6, but
\nIn the end Erwin managed to win with some fantastic points and thus his title
\nto extend.<\/p>\n
Some fun facts about the tournament:
\n\u2013 it's been a long time since we had so many participants
\n\u2013 a total of 128 matches were played (so far calculated)
\n\u2013 Bilal, who has only been a member since the Thursday before, immediately showed that you always participate in this tournament
\n\u2013 Ario finished 17th and thus won the consolation tournament
\n\u2013 Ton was the oldest participant, but still capable of playing 8 games
\n\u2013 Carlo did not make it to the top 4 by winning 1 game too few
\n\u2013 Roland did not make it to the top 4 due to missing some match points
\n\u2013 The best 10 have qualified for the Top 12 after the summer. These will be supplemented with
\nwild cards and reserve players (by rating)
\n\u2013 Despite the crowds, Walter could easily handle the bar shift on his own
\n\u2013 Jan did not come last<\/p>\n
